Alternative forms of home electricity generation are becoming more and more common these days, but consider for a moment where we would we be if electricity had not yet been discovered. A family consisting of four or more people would most likely live in quite a large home, so if your whole roof was fitted with solar panels, would that not  produce a significant amount of renewable, free power for your family? Note that a family of four would not necessarily use four times the amount of power as a single individual, because, for example, there will be occasions when you are all together in one room, sharing the resources and perhaps watching the same show on TV. There can be little doubt that DIY wind generators and solar panels are capable of making a massive difference to your finances, and you will also be protecting in the future of the planet for your children.

If more people began to adopt these home electricity generation technologies, the necessity to build more traditional power stations could be reversed.
